ISO 9001

Winston-Salem Industries for the Blind (IFB) facilities have earned ISO 9001:2008 registrations, meeting the quality-assurance standards for worldwide guidelines for quality manufacturing. All three IFB locations, Winston-Salem, Asheville, and Puerto Rico, met or exceeded the rigorous ISO quality standards for manufacture and retail sale of bedding, textiles, household cleaning products, office supplies, vinyl products, optical products, and household impulse items.

ISO is the world's largest developer and publisher of international standards, with networked companies in 159 countries all over the globe. ISO works to standardize quality expectations in the global society.

“The ISO 9001 certification is confirmation of the exemplary work that we perform and the quality products that we produce,” said Dan Kelly, general manager of IFB operations. “It is also a very important step in continuing our strong growth for years to come.”

For businesses, the widespread adoption of International Standards means that suppliers can develop and offer products and services meeting specifications that have wide international acceptance. For customers, conformity of products and services to International Standards provides assurance about their quality, safety and reliability.

The ISO certification has been described as a kind of “International Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.” It is rapidly becoming a must for any company that does business with the government or with complex or critical items that ship overseas. Many companies require their suppliers to become ISO 9001 certified.

“The dedication and effort of our employees is what ensures the safe, quality products that we produce across so many different categories,” said Kelly. “It’s that same dedication and effort that earned WSIFB the ISO certification.”
